National Rural Drinking Water Programme. This programme was launched in April 2009 by the then Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation presently Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, for assisting states in providing drinking water to the rural population of India. This programme has incorporated paradigmatic changes in its previous version called the Accelerated Rural Water Supply Programme, by emphasizing on water supply systems which are planned and managed by the community at the village level, for ensuring sustainable drinking water availability, convenient delivery systems and achieving water security at the household level.
the impacts of the DWF initiative “Safe Drinking Water and Sanitation Awareness Campaign” started with the support of Water and Sanitation Support Organization (WSSO) Uttar Pradesh (UP) in different blocks of district Lalitpur. The purpose is to generate awareness about safe drinking water; health and hygiene conditions; and water testing methods among the villagers. This report shows that how DWF team have successfully conducted orientation, fair (Mela), and water testing by visiting their respective villages.
Field water testing kit is used for making peoples aware of the risk of contamination of water sources. Different water testing methods were demonstrated practically by the team of DWF. Some treatment methods were also suggested to remove chemical composition from water and knowledge about hazardous diseases.
In this report, a survey questionnaire is used for taking responses from the villagers as provided by the WSSO, UP and my Mother Ngo ABHINAV. The current conditions of the village water source, and sanitation infrastructure is also interpreted for achieving the objectives of the campaign. Data has been collected and analysed to show the effectiveness of this campaign.
This report has an impact analysis to bring out the positive and negative impacts of the campaign. Some suggestive indicators for the sustainability of the campaign are also provided.
